Monday – September 25, 2017 – Worship Has to do With Your Spirit
John 4:23-24 (NLT) But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. 24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
One of the best descriptions of worship is expressing your love toward the object of your ultimate value. To a believer in Jesus, that would be God, but unfortunately that is not true of most people. Most people worship something other than God because they value something more than God. The only worship that is acceptable to God is worship toward God. The reason for that is expressed in this phrase, “…those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Your spirit is what makes you aware of God. Without your spirit being alive, you may be aware of His existence but you cannot be aware of His presence. When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden they were totally aware of His presence but when sin entered into the world they were driven out of the Garden of Eden. They were no longer in His presence because they became spiritually dead. It took the death of Jesus to restore people to spiritual life and it is because of His death and our belief in Him that we are able to worship God in spirit and in truth.
Worship God with your spirit.
