Monday – October 1, 2018 – A Peaceful Long Life.
Proverbs 3:1-2 (NLV) My son, do not forget my teaching. Let your heart keep my words. 2 For they will add to you many days and years of life and peace.
Peace should hold a premium in our lives and God’s Word tells us how to experience it. Peace doesn’t come naturally in the world, but anxiety does. We live in a stress-filled world that is full of strife and discontent. On the world stage, there is conflict after conflict.
Unfortunately, many of us in the church struggle to find peace ourselves. The contrast of peace is fear, anxiety and inordinate worry or concern. These emotions often debilitate and tear a person up on the inside. They can lead to physical concerns and even illness. The worry can lead to a breakdown in health that leads to premature death.
We attempt to use the techniques of the world to find peace rather than following the principles taught in the Word of God. A worldly technique in dealing with anxiety is to meditate your mind empty; to relax and deny the existence of your problems. God’s solution is to know His Word; to fill your mind with it. Think about the revelation about God in His Word. Think about how great and how good He is. Think about how He is beyond ordinary limits, of how He is surpassing and exceeding in everything we can think or do. Of how He is infinitely superior and supreme over us or any of our negative experiences or impressions. Think of how He is matchless and peerless in His power and strength. Think about how He is near to you; that He is so near that He is in you and on you; that He is deep rooted and fixed in His love toward you. Know that He is ingrained and indispensable to your life.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your peace that surpasses all understanding and that I can experience that peace by remembering what Your Word teaches.
