Tuesday – October 3, 2017 – How Important is God’s Word?
Psalm 138:2 (NKJV) I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
To the ancient Hebrews, there wasn’t anything more important to them than their name. Reputation was everything to them. They recognized that a name is no good if you can’t keep a promise. If your word is no good than your name is no good. God made promises through His Word and He made sure that He was always faithful to fulfill His promises. Sometimes He would confirm His promise with an oath. He even confirmed His promise to Abraham through a covenant. He wanted for us to be doubly certain that He would keep His promises to us. His promises are so certain that even if we fail Him, He will not fail us. He will not give up on us and He will use His written Word to conform us into the image of Jesus who is the Word.
To elevate your Word above what represents your essence is shows the magnitude of how important God’s Word is to Himself.
You can’t get anymore important than that.
