Thursday – October 5, 2017 – How Powerful is God’s Word?

Matthew 4:4a (NLT) But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,

Matthew 4:7a (NLT) Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say,

Matthew 4:10a (NLT) “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

From the very beginning of Jesus’ earthly ministry, He went to war against Satan. The Spirit sent him into the wilderness and it was there that Satan bombarded Him with temptation after temptation. Satan appealed to His legitimate appetites by tempting Him to fulfill them by illegitimate means. The only weapon that Jesus employed against Satan was to use the Word of God. He said, “the Scriptures say…” and He used them as the only rule of authority in His life. Nothing else appealed to Jesus no matter how big the promised pay off would be.

He used the Scriptures because He knew that the “Word of God was living and powerful.” Satan had no defense against the power of God’s Word. God’s Word even divides soul and spirit allowing the awareness of our needs to become subservient to what God desires. Your soul says one thing but your spirit dictates another and if you apply the Word of God your spirit will overrule the desires of your soul.

You can’t get anymore powerful than that.
