Wednesday – February 21, 2018 – The Holy Spirit in Creation
Genesis 1:1-2 (NIV) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
Genesis 2:7 (NIV) Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
What better place to start than at the beginning. The Holy Spirit is introduced in the first paragraph of the Bible. We find Him hovering over the waters. He is active in creation, not only of the world, but also of mankind. Without the breath that He supplies, we would all die, and without Him hovering over the earth, like a husband hovers over a wife, there would be no human life and no earth.
He creates life and He sustains life. In His creation, He has a specific design in mind. He made the earth to function in a certain way and any deviation from that design places the existence of the earth in great peril. Without Him keeping the revolution of the earth in place and the rotation of the earth on its axis, it would simply be a ball spinning in space with no evidence of life.
Through His hovering over and breathing into, not only is life created, it is also sustained. With that in mind, how conscious are you of the existence of the Holy Spirit and His presence in your daily life? As an exercise, take one day this week where you seek the Holy Spirit and ask Him to make you more aware of His presence in every part of your life. If that becomes a daily exercise, your life will never be the same. Imagine your life lived with every moment aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence.
Prayer: Thank you Holy Spirit that You not only give me life, but You also sustain my life. Help me to live the life that You sustain in honor of You.
