Friday – March 23, 2018 – Love Requires Judgment.
John 12:31 (NIV) Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.
John 16:11 (NIV) and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
We have all heard the argument that a God of love can’t also be a God of judgment. Love and judgment are so incompatible. Nothing can be further from the truth. It is because God judges that we can be certain that He loves us.
It is usually people who have never suffered injustice in their lives who make the assertion that God will not bring judgment. It takes the quiet of a suburban upbringing to cause someone to believe that God will not judge. A suburban upbringing may result in the occasional flare up between neighbors, where a dog might bark incessantly, or a glaring light may be left on. But seldom does it lead to out and out conflict.
What about the people who have been raised in conflict and all they have experienced is bloodshed and warfare between different ethnic groups? What if your family was targeted and your women have been raped and abused and your men maimed and murdered simply because you belonged to another group? Would you want the perpetrators treated with impunity? It is when people know that there is little chance of consequences that they take license and continue the cycle of murder and mayhem. There are murderers and rapists in the world and their father is the devil. Unless they become convicted of their sins and turn to Christ in repentance, God will judge them. He might even judge them in this life by using the agency of governmental authority. Read Romans 13:1-5. Regardless, those who act like the devil will suffer along with him. They will be judged according to their will and not against it.
Prayer: Thank you Holy Spirit for convicting me of my sins and delivering me from their consequences. Jesus took the penalty for my sin so I would not have to.
