Friday – April 6, 2018 – Power for Warfare.
Acts 10:38 NIV) “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.”
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
When you are engaged in warfare, you need to be equipped with powerful weapons. Since our enemies are spiritual, we need spiritual weapons. The Holy Spirit is the one who equips us and empowers us. He is the one who makes our weapons useful. All of the weapons in this list are defensive until you get to the ones relating to the Holy Spirit. Those weapons, the sword of the Spirit and praying in the Spirit are offensive. We know what a sword is used for. It is used in close hand to hand combat. But we need to use our imagination regarding what praying in the Spirit is used for.
It can be likened to a spear where the warfare is more at a distance. In other words, you do not need to be near to see the effects of praying in the Spirit. On one occasion in Matthew 8, a centurion came to Jesus seeking healing for his servant who was suffering terribly. He knew that Jesus was a man of spiritual authority and that He only needed to speak the Word and his servant would be healed. Jesus spoke the Word and his servant was healed at that moment. There is more power in the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) then can be imagined. When we speak the Word of God through prayer, we should expect to see great miracles occurring just like Jesus did.
When we begin to operate in that way, the devil will tremble, and we will see more victories than we ever imagined. Jesus healed those who were under the power of the devil and we should be doing the same things.
Prayer: Thank You, Holy Spirit for empowering me to defeat the devil in all arenas of life. There is nothing too difficult for You and that means that there is nothing too difficult for me.
