Wednesday – April 11, 2018 – The Supernatural Ability to Act.
1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (NIV) To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
Matthew 9:2 (NKJV) Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”
Acts 8:6-7 (NKJV) And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.
Acts 19:11-12 (NKJV) Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.
The supernatural ability to act consists of the three gifts known as faith, gifts of healing and miraculous powers.
Faith is paramount to the Christian life; without it, you cannot please God. But in addition to the faith that saves you and the faith that pleases God, there is a faith that only the Holy Spirit gives. It operates in unusual ways. It is the kind of faith that moves obstacles that are immovable. You generally do not think of Jesus operating in faith when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane, but He was. He was facing the most difficult experience in His life when He was about to endure the cross and become sin when He knew no sin. He was also about to face being forsaken by His Father. No one can face an impossible situation like this without supernatural faith.
Gifts of Healing is plural for a reason. There are multiple diseases in the world and not all are cured in the same way. You only need to look at the healing ministry of Jesus when He was on earth to see this. Although there are many similarities in the healings, there are more differences. Sometimes He touched people, sometimes He cast out demons, sometimes He simply spoke the Word. The common denominator is that the Holy Spirit gave Him the insight needed to accomplish the miracle and He always used the right method.
The term “miraculous powers” is understood in the meaning “of” the word “miracle.” A miracle is an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human knowledge or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause. In other words, the Holy Spirit must be at work to accomplish what cannot be accomplished without His intervention. There are some things that you can do that your human abilities can accomplish on your own. Hopefully, you are seeking God to do through you what only He can do.
Prayer: Thank You, Holy Spirit, that You can move supernaturally through me and accomplish world altering events.
